The ThinkStation is 3U rackmountable, with the CD tray vertical for the thinner chassis. Fits full-length, full-height PCIe (video) cards. They called it the "world's smallest dual CPU workstation" so Apple could definitely match it for the Mac Pro.

Assuming (1) changes in tax policy have immediate effects, and (2) there is no such thing as as normal economic business cycles that overlay tax changes.
Is there such a thing as a "normal economic business cycle"? Seems like every cycle involves a different regulatory environment, different tax structure and different fad currents. How can one even suggest that what worked before will work again? (My car was overheating and losing coolant, so I replaced the water pump, therefore, if I experience more overheating and leaking, that is what I should do again.)
Really, the cycles appear to be too steep on both sides. To me, it looks like the sheep converging on what is hot at the moment are causing the bubbles. A roaring economy almost always leads to a crash, we should have smoother growth with shallower cycles, perhaps by throttling massive movements of capital. An unregulated market does correct itself as needed, but the corrections sure look a lot worse than they need to be. At least as far as I can see.

Baloney on so many levels. Apple doesn't need to be like Android to succeed unless you define success as market share. Market share means nothing if you have the margins like Apple does. Fake Steve Jobs (Dan Lyons) said it best last year. To paraphrase, "In three years Android will be huge but we will still have the better business." And if you want to equate market share to developer interest, well, there are articles all over today announcing that developer interest in Android is waning because of fragmentation and tablets while interest in iOS is rising.
So what's better? More people using your product than the other guy's or having sustainable growth and good profits year in and year out?
Apple makes money on the handset, Google makes money on ad revenue. Apple needs iOS in order to continue growing and remain successful. How much does Google actually make from Android? Probably nothing close to what Apple makes on iOS and related devices. If Google determines that the Android model does not work for them, they have little incentive not to cut and run if the minority of their revenue is coming from that product. Apple has a whole lot more to lose in this game than Google.
While profitability and margins are important, ultimately the game goes to the one with the greatest market share. That has been proven over and over again. Having a huge profit margin means nothing if fewer people buy your product than the competitions'.

What's the possiblility of the new mbp being available in stores after the announcement? Is one usually required to order new products online or could I skip the wait by driving an hour to the nearest apple store?

Interersting that a number have cancelled. I gave it a thought as the local apple store has them but the thought of saving almost $30 kept me from doing so.

$1962 for US Education. w/2 GHz and 160 GB hard drive.
A 2.66GHz CPU is about $400 more expensive than a 2.0GHz, BTO only takes $300 off, so the base config is the best choice. There is a gap, no single processor mac pro, not like Apple's sale strategy. Either Cornore mac pro or iMac will be great.

Oh yah, there was one. It was a CD player that was soooo bad hardy a soul bought it and it's barely remembered. I think it happened while Steve was at Next abd the idjuts were in control of of Apple. It may have set a record for a short lifespan, not counting Microsoft's vaporware that was never spawned.

I'm definitely holding out for Merom now since it seems like it's coming within the month. Customers Christmas shopping will compare laptops across all brands and if Apple isn't sporting a Merom they're gonna lose a lot of laptop sales. And I'm willing to wait since OS X 10.5 is even more 64-bit than 10.4 is, I'd be nice to have a 64-bit processor instead of a 32-bit processor running a 64-bit OS (yes i know 10.5 will run on 32-bit processors), although the overall benefits are up to discussion.
So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna buy the memory today (long story I have to spend within the week 200 dollars store credit at CompUSA) and put it in the Macbook when I get it, hopefully within the month.
I'm correct in assuming that Yonah and Merom takes the EXACT same type/speed of ram right?

While I think US$44,000 in earned income exempted for a family of four is probably about right, some have suggested probably something in the range of US$47,000 to US$50,000 to better compensate for inflation. The advantage such a generous exemption before the flat rate kicks in is that lower-income families could now better afford the bare necessities of life, since they're not going to have as much as 20-plus percent of their income taken away by the income tax.

will only upgrade if the coolest features of iOS 5 can't be run on 3GS...otherwise, i'll wait another year for iPhone 6.
Why would you hold on to an old Iphone when you can sell it for at least $150 or more? I know people who sold their Iphone 3Gs right after the Iphone 4 came out for close to $300. We will all be able to do the same when the Iphone 5 comes out...sell you old Iphone 4 and get the Iphone 5. ATT usually lets you upgrade every year.
And September is only 2 months later than usual...

If Apple get it right it will be the fashion phone of choice.
What will be really great is that, in addition to the above, something that is the critical factor as it was with iPod, it will also sync beautifully with Apple contacts, calendars, etc., driving more people to purchase Apple computers, even though I do expect that they will also bundle a nice piece of Windows software (a must).
Apples are already climbing in sales and many of my Windows-using friends are considering Macs for the first time now, not because of all the stuff endlessly debated here, but rather because the iMac and MacBooks are so bitchin'.
Steve Jobs is indeed finally capitalizing on "taste", an obcession of his from the early days. He was right when he said in the 80s that "the problem with Microsoft is that they have no taste. I mean that in a big sense." Now his company is poised to take a large portion of Microsoft's sales by exploiting that vulnerability.
People aren't realizing that OS X is better. They are falling in love with the new stylish Macs, obscure objects of desire. The fact that they are getting better and better, and that they are making a line of easily interoperable products (much more of this to come in the coming 12 months - media center, phone, and maybe even a UPMC) that just make life easier is just a plus that will help to sustain the brand.

well I called back and upped the ram to 2 gigs which is what i consider the base really.
I just didnt want to go running around looking for ram to get to work.
Crucial doesnt have anything for the MacPro yet and I was fooled by the strange new words and the "you will have heat problems if you buy other ram from other makers that dont have heat sinks!"

So I feel for it and bit another 300 offa my wallet.
figure that with this base i can then search at a somewhat leisurely pace to get the other 4 gigs kits that will fit in the remaining slots.
Please someone tell me it was a smart move?

I seriously cant believe how some think Apple would just destroy itself by putting crappy chips for no reason. If they are going to put ARM in notebooks they have good reason for doing that, either they will be a better choice for the Air or maybe ARM has some serious power chips planned.

Everyone's been complaining about the nVidia GeForce 7300 GT...
All I want to know is how it compares to the ATI Radeon x800xt? I currently have one in my PC and it has served me well for almost 2 years; I can play any game that's out today (maybe not at huge resolutions, but with all options turned on). Anyone?

Whether it comes out or not, you won't be getting one. So why would it matter either way?
Did I say that I don't want people to have a new phone? Im just not disappointed there isn't any new ones announced, and relieved I wont have to fork out for one at full price from Apple, and instead get a subsidized one from my Network.
And in honesty im not surprised, the specs of the iPhone 4 are still plenty (Could only do with larger storage options).
I think it's too soon for a Dual-Core A5 iPhone, with an 8MP Camera and full 1080p recording, which will probably be what the next one will have.
